Restoring Heritage Assets a complete renovation and revival of a 16th Century country farmhouse
Grade II renovation in Buckinghamshire, adding space and re-modelling a historic, listed family home.
With the year build nearing completion, we review this projec a Grade II renovation in Buckinghamshire, with pride, acknowledging the achievements of the homeowner on managing this complex heritage project with a select team of builders and master craftsmen.
Opening up a historic building is always fraught with challenges and the unknown and this project was no exception.
Kicking off was a conversion of the existing barn, providing the temporary accommodation the client needed during the extensive works on the main property.
This included the installation of a 16m long glulam beam custom designed to fit and support 14 linear meters of sliding glazing panels. Design and fit detailing was completed inhouse with HEC Structural and Civil Engineers designing the groundworks and structural detailing, approved by the glazing contractor ODC Glass.
The main contractor was the experienced Mark at MH Restoration.
What followed was 12 months of site visits and meetings, discussing the existing buildings fabric with the contractor, homeowner and project manager and ourselves and HEC as external consultants. Prompt attendance all times kept the project on-time and with reasonable weather all groundworks and landscaping was completed prior to opening up the main property, keeping the site clean and maintaining some kind of order during works.
The final drawing package was extensive containing 48 completed A1 layouts of main construction, detail drawings, door and window schedules.
