Contemporary rear extension in Amersham
We have completed the design for a series of modern extensions to a characterful turn of the century property close to Amersham. The clients brief was to retain the character and feel of the existing property, but combine new extensions in a modern way. We proposed a series of internal changes with a large modern rear extension linking cues from the original house with modern materials.
The new extension transforms the design and layout of the property as well as creating a new kitchen and living space opening out onto the large south facing garden. The glazed roof enables additional light to be brought into the space as well as creating a large new volume for entertaining. The new house creates a feeling of light and space to the existing property in terms of its massing, character, aesthetics and all the proposed materials and techniques are intended to create an excellent standard of accommodation.
The massing of the proposed extensions were designed to maximise the floor area allowed under current planning law with the new single storey rear and side extensions designed to be modern in design and detailing with new glazed rooflights offering a clean and precise addition to the existing dwelling.
